Upgrade Windows Home to Pro

This guide shows you how to upgrade from Windows Home to Windows Pro using the Microsoft Store. Screenshots can be added to each step.


Before You Start

  • Make sure your PC is on Windows Home (check under Settings → System → About).

  • Connect to the internet and plug in power if you’re on a laptop.

  • Save your work. The PC will restart.


Option 1: Buy Upgrade in Microsoft Store

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to System → Activation (Windows 11) or Update & Security → Activation (Windows 10).

  3. Under Upgrade your edition, click Go to the Store.

  4. In the Store, select Buy under Upgrade to Windows Pro.

  5. Follow the steps to purchase.

  6. After buying, click Start Upgrade.

  7. Your PC will restart and finish the upgrade.



Option 2: Use a Product Key (if you already have one)

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to System → Activation (Windows 11) or Update & Security → Activation (Windows 10).

  3. Select Change product key.

  4. Enter your Windows Pro key.

  5. Click Next, then Start.

  6. Your PC will restart and finish the upgrade.





After the Upgrade

  • Go back to Settings → Activation.

  • Confirm it now says Windows Pro.

  • Make sure it shows Activated.


Troubleshooting

  • If the Store doesn’t open: open the Microsoft Store app manually and sign in, then try again.

  • If activation fails: run the Activation Troubleshooter under Settings → Activation.

  • If you bought the upgrade but still see Home: restart the PC and check for Windows Updates, then try again.
